Heres a tutorial I wrote up on how to rip DVDs at the best quality for uploading.
How To Rip a DVD
Step 1
If you do NOT have DVD Decrypter you will need to download it by going to the following location:
Code:
Code:
http://www.altech-ads.com/product/10001086.htm
(Just click the green down arrow button, I know the sites in Japaneese, but the program it self is in English)
Once you have DVD Decrypter pop in your DVD and open up DVD Decrypter. Make sure you have the mode set to File.
Then you will see all the files on your DVD appear on the right side.
Next, click at the top edit> select main movie files.
Then it should look something like this...
If your does not look like the above, please make sure you have followed the prior instructions.
Next, you select where you want to save the files, I usually create a folder on my desktop with the movies initials, this movie is ladder 49 so I make a new folder on my desktop L49..
Once you have done all this you are set to go...click the button shown below and it will start ripping.
I suggest not doing much on your computer while ripping unless you have a high amount of ram.
Once ripping is completed Decrypter will make this little jingle letting you know. Now on to step two.
Step 2
Now is the conversion stage. You will need AGK to do this, if you do not have AGK you can get it at either of the following locations:
Code:
Code:
http://www.autogk.me.uk/index.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=1
or
Code:
Code:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/AutoGK.htm
Once you have downloaded this and installed, make sure it is up to date, the latest update is 2.26.
Now that you have the latest version of AGK lets move on.
Before I tell you how to convert, be aware that this slows your computer down and a lot of us only convert while we are away for a couple hours or sleeping. I have 512mb of ram right now so I do my coverting while away. If your somebody with 1gb+ of ram this may not apply to you. Since it runs a lot of resources if you use your computer it may cause your avi to have audio off setting and scenes that skip. So always make sure you check your avis when done converting to make sure they have no off set or skipping.
Now on to the converting, open up AGK, it will look something like this...if it doesn't you have the wrong program.
Next select the little folder next to input file.
Now go to the folder where Decrypter ripped the DVD files to and select the ifo file. It will load up and then underneath you will see it say the length of the movie, the audio fields will be filled, leave the audio filled how it is unless you know exactly what your doing. Now underneath the input file theres the output file field, click the folder and just click save, it will save the avi in the same folder as the ifo and vob files are.
Now it's time to set the target size...
To figure out what the target size should be set to please download my AGK Conversion Scale from the following link:
Code:
Code:
http://www.cawagula.com/download.php?file=fa35ae852968d0721fc80365e64c8929
This will guide you through the best target size setting for your movie based on the DVD file size.
Once you have completed filling out all the fields its time to add the job...at the bottom right theres the add job button...click it and your job will be placed in the que section. When you are ready hit start and your conversion will begin.
The converting process is a long process. Depening on the movie size it can take anywheres from 3 hours to 7 hours. Thats why most of us do it while we are away.
Once the process is complete go into the folder where it was saved and you will see your avi file{s}. Delete the vob and the ifo files since they are useless and take up way too much space to keep. You only need to keep the avi files obviously and the log file. Now its time to upload.
Step 3
Before you upload a lot of people like to rar their movies and add a password. Do so if you feel its need. I don't, what I do is, make sure the file is named in iniitials and then remove the extension by renaming and taking out the .avi. Then I upload using file front. To be safe and to make sure my accounts do not get locked I create a new account after I reach 5gb of uploadings. I move on to a new account. This way I dont have a huge account and they get suspicious. My last account that was blocked was 9gb, thats why I only use 5gb now.
Now upload your movie on FF, it usually takes somewherea round 5 hours sometimes. If it times out dont worry it happens to us all. FF is still the best place to upload large files.
Once your movie is uploaded it will ask you if you want to add a comment, add your name so if anyone steals your link it will help stop them.
Tips:
Post your AGK log in your thread with the movie...
Make sure to always give directions on renaming file and or what the password is...
In AGK, don't change the audio setting unless you know what your doing...
